ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jul, 2024) The Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was introduced in the National Assembly on Wednesday.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Law and Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar on behalf of the Minister for Interior, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi moved the Bill to amend the Pakistan Citizenship Act, 1951 [The Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2024].
Tarar said: “The citizenship of the country was being granted to every child of foreign nationals born in Pakistan.
But it is going to be changed as globally it has been the law that anyone of the parents of the ward has to be citizen of that particular country and this is to be adopted in the country as well.”
He underlined that the United Kingdom was the first to introduce this citizenship and had changed that legislation. The Speaker National Assembly referred the Bill to the Committee concerned for detailed deliberations.
